Version 1 · Effective 17 October 2026
In short
- Synkbay never receives your files. They go directly between your phone and your Mac over the USB cable.
- The app has no account, no analytics and no tracking. It checks synkbay.com for new versions and refunded licenses, and never sends anything about you, your Mac or your phone. Everything it keeps stays on your Mac.
- We receive personal data only when you buy Synkbay Pro, email us, choose to send us a diagnostics report, or ask to be notified when Synkbay launches.
- The website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. If you ask to be notified at launch, we keep your email address only until we send that one email.
- We don't sell personal data or use it for advertising.
This summary is for convenience. The sections below are the policy.
1. Who we are
This policy explains how synkbay.com (“Synkbay”, “we”, “us”) handles personal data in connection with the Synkbay app for Mac, its built-in user guide, and the website at synkbay.com. We decide how and why this personal data is used, which makes us the data controller (or “data fiduciary” under Indian law). You can reach us at support@synkbay.com.
2. The Synkbay app
The app doesn't send anything about you to us or anyone else. It contains no analytics, crash-reporting service, advertising or tracking code.
The status check. When Synkbay starts, and once a day while it runs, it downloads one small public file from synkbay.com. The file lists the newest version of Synkbay, so the app can tell you about updates, and the license keys that were refunded or replaced, so a refunded key stops unlocking Pro. It is the same file for everyone, and the request contains no license key, order ID, name, email address, or anything that identifies your Mac or your phone. Like any request on the internet, it reaches our website host with your IP address and the time; we don't record or use these, and the host processes them only to deliver the file (section 6). Synkbay compares the list with your license on your Mac. If there is no internet connection, nothing happens and Pro keeps working.
Apart from that check, the app goes online only when you click a link to our website, such as Buy or Purchase Help; that link opens in your web browser, and section 6 then applies.
To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac only:
- Your settings, such as the download folder and appearance.
- Your phones: each phone's serial number, which Synkbay uses to recognise it, any nickname you give it, and the folder it was last open in.
- Transfer history: the names, locations, sizes and times of files you copied, for each phone. You can turn this off or clear it in Settings → Transfers.
- Sync records: for Photo Sync and sync folders, which files were copied, with their size and date, so they aren't copied twice.
- Previews: a temporary copy of a file while Quick Look or a thumbnail shows it, deleted afterwards.
- License details: your license key, which contains your name, email address and order ID; its activation on this Mac, which includes a one-way code derived from your Mac's hardware identifier (the identifier itself isn't stored); how many trial tries you've used; and when you agreed to the license agreement.
Synkbay reads the files on your phone only to show them to you and copy them where you ask. It doesn't look at their contents for any other purpose, and it has no access to your messages, contacts, calls, notifications, camera or screen.
Removing it: the uninstaller in the Synkbay disk image removes the app and everything above, except your license key, its activation and your trial tries, so that reinstalling doesn't need a new key or restart the trial. To remove those too, run defaults delete com.synkbay.Synkbay in Terminal after uninstalling.
3. Diagnostics you choose to send
Help → Export Diagnostics… creates a report on your Mac, only when you choose to. It includes the Synkbay version, your macOS version and Mac model, each connected phone's manufacturer, model and technical state, recent errors and events, the license's order ID, and Synkbay's recent crash reports. Your name and email, license key, phone serial numbers and nicknames, your Mac's user and computer names, and file names are removed from it. The report reaches us only if you send it to us, for example by email.
4. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you attach, such as a diagnostics report or screenshots. We use them only to answer you and to fix the problem you report.
5. When you buy Synkbay Pro
Synkbay Pro is sold through our Merchant of Record (MoR), which runs the checkout, takes payment, handles sales tax and issues receipts and refunds (license agreement, section 13). The MoR processes your name, email address, payment details and billing country under its own privacy notice, as a separate controller. We never see your full payment card details.
We receive your name, email address and order details (such as the order ID, product, price, date and country) and use them to:
- issue your license key, which contains your name, email address and order ID, and email it to you;
- help you if you lose your key, move to a new Mac, or need a receipt or refund. A new key for a new Mac is sent only to the email address you bought with;
- keep business and tax records;
- prevent misuse: if a license is refunded, charged back, replaced by a new key for another Mac, or shared in breach of the license agreement, its key ID (your order ID, or the order ID with a number added for a replacement key, never your name or email) is added to the public list the app downloads (section 2), and may be built into later versions of the app, so that key stops unlocking Pro.
If you use a Purchase Help form to have your key sent again or to get a key for a new Mac, we check the email address and order ID against your order, and keep only a count of the emails sent for your order that day, so nobody can flood your inbox. We keep a record of the changes we make to orders and keys, such as refunds and new keys. Each key email's button carries a short random code instead of your key; we keep the code for 30 days so the button can hand the key to Synkbay. We keep these order records in a database at our website host. We don't use this data for marketing. If we ever want to email you about new versions or offers, we'll ask first.
6. The website
synkbay.com uses no cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites. Like any website, it is delivered by a hosting provider, which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't use this data to identify you.
Launch notification: if you enter your email address in the “Notify me” form, we store it, with the date, so we can send you one email when Synkbay 1.0 is available to download. We don't use it for anything else, add it to a mailing list, or share it, apart from our website host, which stores it for us. We delete the list within 30 days after sending the launch email, or sooner if you ask. You can ask us to remove your address at any time by emailing support@synkbay.com, or by replying to the launch email.
7. Why we use personal data
Where the law asks for a legal basis (for example, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation), we rely on:
- Contract: issuing and supporting your license, and answering support requests about the app you use;
- Legal obligation: keeping business and tax records;
- Legitimate interests: preventing license misuse, keeping the website secure, and improving Synkbay using problems you report to us;
- Consent, where you give it, such as asking to be notified at launch or choosing to send a diagnostics report. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we process your personal data for the purposes described in this policy, which you provide it for, and for legitimate uses the Act allows.
8. Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run Synkbay, and only as much as each needs:
- our Merchant of Record, for purchases, receipts and refunds;
- our website host, to deliver the website and the status file, to store launch-notification sign-ups, and to store order and license records;
- our email providers, to send license keys and to send and receive email.
We may also disclose personal data if the law requires it, to protect our rights, or to professional advisers bound by confidentiality. If Synkbay is ever sold or transferred to a new owner, personal data would move with it under the same commitments. We don't sell or rent personal data.
9. Where it is processed
We are based in India. Our service providers may process personal data in other countries. Where the law requires it, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
10. How long we keep it
- License and order records: for as long as your license can be used and supported, and for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them.
- Support emails: 180 days after our last message with you.
- Diagnostics reports you send: deleted within 180 days of your request being resolved.
- Launch-notification addresses: deleted within 30 days after we send the launch email, or sooner if you ask.
- Revoked key IDs: stay on the public list for as long as the license could otherwise be used, and in the versions of the app that already include them.
- On your Mac: until you delete them or uninstall Synkbay (section 2).
11. Security
We keep the personal data we hold to a minimum and protect it with appropriate technical and organisational measures, such as limiting who can access it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but if a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the authorities where the law requires.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you, and get a copy;
- have it corrected or completed;
- have it deleted, unless we must keep it by law;
- object to or restrict how we use it, or withdraw consent;
- receive it in a portable format;
- nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to (India);
- complain to a data protection authority, such as the one where you live, or the Data Protection Board of India.
To use any of these rights, or to raise a grievance, email support@synkbay.com. We'll reply within one month, and may ask you to confirm your identity, for example by writing from the email address on your order. We'd appreciate the chance to address any concern before you contact an authority.
13. Children
Synkbay isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 without a parent's or guardian's consent. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes
We'll update this policy when what we do changes, for example if Synkbay gains online license activation, and change the version and date above. If a change matters to how we use your personal data, we'll say so on the website, and in the app where it applies.
